Допълнителна информация

On April 19, the Turkish Cypriots will elect a new parliament. Current figures show the conservative hard-liners ahead in the polls. If the left-wing party headed by Turkish Cypriot President Mehmet Ali Talat loses the election, his efforts to reunify the island will suffer a serious setback. Talat is supported by Kutlay Erk, the former mayor of Nicosia, who is a long-standing supporter of reunification. Erk and his family are no stranger to the history of tension on the island. In 1963, Erk's father was killed by Greek Cypriot extremists. His father's remains were identified only last year, and finally reburied.
